Reports to: Director of Development, Major Gifts
Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Compensation: $52,000-$62,000 annual salary with comprehensive compensation package, commensurate with experience
Location: Remote; Atlanta area (hybrid); or special consideration given to qualified candidates in Washington D.C./Northern Virginia, Texas or Louisiana

Phi Mu Foundation is currently accepting applications for a Development Officer to join a dynamic team working in support of the organization’s powerful mission.

Phi Mu Foundation is committed to the lifetime development of women through the support of the organization’s leadership, scholarship, philanthropic & educational programs, and historic preservation.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Officer will serve as an integral part of the development team to advance fundraising efforts and mission delivery. The Development Officer will have the opportunity to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of prospective leadership and major gift donors; increase annual giving program membership; manage prospect research and the digital moves management system; manage and support key volunteer teams; oversee planning and execution of special events; and advance individual giving efforts and all related responsibilities.

Responsibilities
Solicitation & Support
• Develop and manage some annual fundraising campaigns, including five annual giving societies, Giving Tuesday and Day of Giving
• Manage a portfolio of prospective leadership and major gift donors and execute individual solicitation strategies
• Regularly communicate with donors and prospects to identify individual areas of interest and develop personal solicitation strategies
• Serve as a resource to the Foundation Board, Development Staff, and other volunteer teams
• Assist with the research and preparation of materials for individual donor solicitations
• Assist in preparation, execution and analysis of giving campaigns
• Coordinate production and timely fulfillment of campaign incentives

Prospect Management
• Assist and manage the prospect management process and data management
• Oversee the digital moves management process for portfolio
• Conduct required daily, weekly and monthly database updates as needed to ensure data accuracy
• Assist with projects that support the Foundation’s Development teams, including updating information in the constituent database and conducting donor research as needed

Event Planning & Execution
• Prepare reports, research and other materials for cultivation and solicitation events

• Assist in event follow up including thank you letters and data entry
• Serve as a knowledgeable and enthusiastic representative at events
• Oversee planning and support of special events

Operational Support
• Work closely with staff to support development operations efforts
• Work with staff to develop marketing plans. Write copy, as needed
• Assist the Director of Development with annual budget preparation
• Perform other special projects and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree a plus
• Two to five years of fundraising success in an education, charitable or nonprofit organization, including a membership organization
• Ability to travel up to 60%
• Live within one hour of major airport
• Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven ability to build and nurture personal relationships with staff, volunteers and donors
• Commitment to professionalism, teamwork and the mission of Phi Mu Foundation
• Ability to organize and analyze data with accuracy
• A proven ability to independently manage multiple priorities and projects
• High level of energy, initiative and enthusiasm
• Highly motivated self-starter who can work collaboratively and independently
• Computer competency – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
• Experience with Blackbaud products (Raiser’s Edge NXT) or other donor/customer management database a plus

Phi Mu membership preferred, but not required.

18 Hours & 52 Minutes of Giving: March 4, 2025

Phi Mu’s 173rd Founders Day is right around the corner, and we’ll be celebrating this milestone anniversary with our annual 18 Hours & 52 Minutes of Giving! Founders Day is the perfect day to give back to Phi Mu with a gift to invest in the lifetime development of women.  

 

Here are a few ways you can get involved in supporting 18 Hours & 52 Minutes of Giving on March 4: 

  • Volunteer with our Social Media Advocate team and help spread the word about 18 Hours & 52 Minutes of Giving. 
  • Join the Day of Giving Leadership Circle with a gift of at least $500 to help us inch closer to our goal of raising $110,000 in 18 Hours & 52 Minutes!  
  • Become a Challenge Champion by establishing a special challenge to be featured on the day of giving. Challenges can be secured with a gift of $1,852 and can be split by up to 4 people. Deadline for challenges is Friday, February 28. 
  • Make a Gift to the day of giving! You don’t have to wait until March 4 to make a general gift to 18 Hours & 52 Minutes. The website will be open on February 25. We’ll update this article with the link on that day.
