Baton Rouge Alumnae Chapter Endows Scholarship

Each year when the Phi Mu Foundation Scholarship Application becomes available, the Baton Rouge Alumnae Chapter beams with pride, knowing that they’ll soon be introduced to the young woman who will carry on their legacy through the Cecil Caldwell Scholarship Fund. The Baton Rouge Alumnae Chapter first established their scholarship fund with Phi Mu Foundation in 1984, but after the passing of the respected and beloved Alpha Eta House Director Ms. Cecil Caldwell, the scholarship fund was renamed in her honor.

Each year, Baton Rouge alumnae partners with the Alpha Eta Chapter, Louisiana State University, to raise funds for the Cecil Caldwell Scholarship Fund. One of their annual fundraisers is a cherished tradition, with parents of the new members having the opportunity to purchase a floral arrangement for their daughter, put together by the alumnae on the day of Initiation. Later in the year, the chapter will gather together again to offer Final Exam Goody Bags for the parents to purchase for their Phi Mu daughters, wishing them well during exam week. In addition to individual gifts made to the Foundation in honor of the Cecil Caldwell Scholarship Fund, these fundraisers help grow the fund and allow for women to continue benefiting from it for years to come.

“Our goal with the Cecil Caldwell Scholarship Fund is first and foremost, to help a young woman obtain her educational goals. As she graduates, we hope she will remember the assistance she received through Phi Mu Foundation and will also become a Foundation member and supporter,” said Baton Rouge Alumnae Chapter President Sheila Walters Yellott, Alpha Rho.
