2024-25 Annual Report

2024-25 Phi Mu Foundation Annual Report

A Message From Our Leadership

Dear Sisters and Friends,

Every Phi Mu woman has a story. A moment, a memory, or a friendship that has shaped her life forever. As we reflect on the past year, you have helped us fulfill every need by investing in these life-changing moments that define our sisterhood.

Whether it’s the excitement of receiving a scholarship that eases the worry of paying tuition, the giant sigh of relief from being awarded a member assistance grant during a personal crisis, or the compassion and empathy gained from the Brave Talk Program, your loyal giving makes these pivotal moments possible for Phi Mu members.

In 2024-25, we saw firsthand how impactful your donations can be. With you by our side, Phi Mu Foundation awarded:

  • $5,408 in historic preservation grants
  • $10,000 to Project HOPE in honor of Gloria ‘Buz’ Henson (Tulsa)
  • $10,750 in member assistance grants to collegiate and alumnae members
  • $185,000 in academic scholarships to collegiate and alumnae members
  • $555,184 in leadership and educational grants to Phi Mu Fraternity and Phi Mu House Corporations

Each of these grants represents a response to a moment where our Phi Mu sisters needed us the most, and you were there to ensure we could make it happen. Each dollar given and every grant received becomes a life-changing moment in a Phi Mu woman’s life. And these moments matter.

As we look to the future, we continue to be inspired by the Amplifying Sorority research that shows that sorority membership is more relevant than ever. Phi Mu offers the support system, leadership growth, and genuine connection that women seek, and your support of Phi Mu Foundation ensures that we can continue to help Phi Mu Fraternity bring this member experience to life.

Thank you for being part of our mission to support the lifetime development of women and to help us invest in these life-changing moments. We hope you can feel the impact of your generosity as you read through the stories captured in this year’s Annual Report.

With love and deep appreciation,

Janeen Judah (Texas A&M)

Investing in Strong, Confident Leaders

The Amplifying Sorority research tells us that potential new members are seeking leadership skills as one of their top priorities while in college. With your support, we’re investing in Phi Mu Fraternity programs that are developing strong, confident leaders. The tools and knowledge Phi Mu members will benefit them well beyond their college years and into their careers and communities.

Meet National Vice President Ellen Bower (Illinois)

“I believe that the programming that Phi Mu Foundation supports is instrumental in creating a life-lasting impact on Phi Mu members. Whether it’s mental health programming, the ability to have their first job by supporting the Chapter Consultant program, or by teaching our members that philanthropy is part of who we are as noble women. When we support programs, we support development and growth of individuals for the betterment of the whole.”

In 2024-25, we awarded $555,184 in leadership and educational grants for various programs, including:

$362,129 to Alpha Eta House Corporation from the Alpha Eta Library Fund
to support educational enhancements to the Alpha Eta Chapter House.
$120,000 to Phi Mu Fraternity from the Fraternity Leadership Fund
to help fund the Chapter Consultant Program and support leadership training, communication skills, conflict resolution, strategic planning, goal setting, academic achievement and philanthropic activities within a chapter and in the campus community.
$47,155 to Alpha Beta House Corporation from the Alpha Beta Library Fund
to support educational enhancements to the Alpha Beta Chapter House.
$21,900 to Phi Mu Fraternity for Leadership & Curriculum staff salaries
to create and assess robust programming for members that enhances their collegiate experience and provides them with essential life skills.
$4,000 to Phi Mu Fraternity from the Eta Zeta Leadership Fund
to fund a staff-led interactive leadership, operational and life-skills training for Eta Zeta Chapter officers, on-site at the chapter.

Awarding Scholarships to Alleviate Financial Burden

Since our founding as a literary society in 1852, Phi Mu has been an organization focused on academic pursuits. Generous contributions to our scholarship funds allow us to award academic scholarships to Phi Mu collegiate and alumnae members who are pursuing their education. Learn more about our commitment to investing in and awarding academic scholarships.

Meet Vivian Nguyen (UMBC)

“Phi Mu Foundation and the scholarship I received have had a profound impact on shaping my future, both personally and professionally. As a first-generation college student from a low-income background, financial support has always been a key factor in my ability to pursue higher education. This scholarship has not only eased the financial burden of dental school but has also empowered me to fully focus on my studies. This scholarship has affirmed my belief in the importance of giving back, and it has inspired me to one day support future students just as the Phi Mu Foundation has supported me.”

For the 2024-25 academic year, we awarded a total of $185,000 in academic scholarships to 154 collegiate and alumnae members.

Preserving Phi Mu History

Meet Past National President and Past Foundation President Robin White Fanning (Clarkson)

“The more you know about our history, the more pride you have and the more invested you are in Phi Mu. We need to keep sharing our incredible story because our past truly inspires future generations. As Phi Mu members, we carry the responsibility of being good stewards of our archives.”

The Foundation invested $5,408 in 2024-25 in Historic Preservation efforts such as headstone repair at Mary Myrick Daniel’s gravesite, investment in the PastPerfect Historical Database System and archival supplies for the Heritage Museum at Phi Mu National Headquarters.

Granting Emergency Assistance to Lend a Helping Hand

When our sisters are falling on difficult times, our Member Assistance Grant Programs allow us to lend a helping hand. Through your contributions to these funds, we’re able to provide financial support to Phi Mu members who are experiencing medical events, natural disasters, interpersonal violence and other dire circumstances.

Meet Carly Davenport (Florida State)

“When Hurricane Helene flooded my home, I lost my car, clothes, furniture, and countless irreplaceable belongings. At my lowest point, the Phi Mu Foundation stepped in with a member assistance grant that gave me and my family hope. Thanks to their support, I was able to continue working full time and access the essentials I needed while displaced from my home.”

In 2024-25, we awarded $10,750 in member assistance grants to 14 members facing difficult times in their lives.
