One Destiny Campaign Update: June 2021

We are nearly 120 days into the public phase of the One Destiny Campaign and have raised $13 million in current and deferred gift commitments! We’d like to recognize Liz Dahne, Delta Iota; and Katy Skaggs, Epsilon Nu, for their commitment to our sisterhood through their major gifts to the campaign in the last month.

The members of the Area Campaign Leadership Team are meeting with Phi Mu women across the country to talk more about the One Destiny Campaign. Contact Senior Director of Development Mandi Young to set up a meeting with a leadership team member in your area to discuss your campaign gift!

Member Assistance Applications on the Rise

We’ve received a record number of member assistance applications in the last 12 months from women dealing with everything from COVID-19 to natural disasters to unforeseen medical events. The Member Assistance Committee has been busy reviewing these applications and steadily providing grant recommendations to the Board of Trustees. We’ve awarded 30 grants from the Leona Hughes Hughes Heart and Hand Fund and the Betty Nell Wilkinson Emergency Fund totaling more than $33,000 to women in need during this fiscal year.

“The Leona Hughes Hughes Heart and Hand Fund grant helped me and my family tremendously following the destruction left behind from Hurricane Laura. Our home was deemed unlivable and the grant helped ease some of the financial burdens and aided with living arrangements, supplies for our infant son, along with food and gas needed for the many weeks without power.”

When you’re thinking of giving back this summer, consider helping us replenish our Member Assistance Funds at www.phimuonedestiny.org.

Congratulations, Scholarship Recipients!

We are proud to announce that 105 Phi Mu women received $173,500 in scholarships for the upcoming school year because of the generosity of our Foundation donors! This year’s recipients represent 60 chapters from across the country, with the Delta Epsilon Chapter at Purdue University having the most scholarship awards of any chapter with five recipients.

Medical school can be tremendously expensive. This scholarship has helped to ease the financial burden that can come from medical education, allowing me to focus more easily on my studies and involvements in order to become the most thorough and empathetic physician I can be. Thank you so very much for this assistance! LIOB.”

Margaret Anne Tharp, Delta Epsilon

Scholarship applications for the 2022-23 academic year will open on December 1, 2021.
