Each year through the Phi Mu Foundation Scholarship Program, we’re able to help lighten the load a bit for our collegiate and alumnae members who are pursuing their education. The recipients of the 2020-21 scholarships include 54 graduate students and 86 undergraduate students representing Phi Mu chapters from across the nation, with awards totaling $153,000.

Thank you for joining us in making history for the Foundation’s first-ever Essential Business Week! With your help, we honored our incredible donors who helped the Foundation to succeed in the last biennium, elected new Trustees and passed Bylaws amendments … all online! While we wished we could have spent this time with you in person, we are grateful for the technology that allowed us to conduct these orders of business with you virtually.

National President Andie Kash, Delta Eta, will continue to serve as the Chairman of the Board and Denise McDorman McDermott, Beta Eta, was appointed by National Council to serve as Trustee through 2022. Robin White Fanning was elected by the Board of Trustees to serve as the Foundation President and Jennifer Chapman Joyner was elected to serve as the Corporate Secretary/Treasurer for the 2020-2022 term.

Please join us in thanking outgoing President Pamela Gaines who will continue to serve on the Board of Trustees, as well as Trustees Delicia Arnold, Jennifer Jardine and Beth Reisinger who are retiring from the board this year. Each of these women has made tremendous contributions to the Foundation and we look forward to their continued support as volunteer committee members.

In addition to the election of Trustees candidates, all proposed Bylaws amendments were also passed by the Foundation membership.

We had a great time celebrating Foundation donors who supported the Foundation throughout the biennium! The donor recognition videos from each day can be viewed on the Foundation YouTube Channel or you can view the individual donor lists by day – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Honoring Philanthropy

One of the best parts of the Essential Business Week was honoring the award recipients who have shown extraordinary philanthropic leadership during the biennium. It’s not too late to watch the awards presentations and celebrate these amazing Phi Mu women and chapters who are leading in this space!

Fundraising

Lastly, we are thrilled to announce that with your support, the Foundation has raised more than $15,000 through Caring Carnations to support the Fraternity’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and $15,000 through the Sisterhood Auction to support the Foundation’s Annual Fund.

We look forward to being back together again for the Foundation Business Session during Phi Mu National Convention in Arizona in 2022!

We’re kicking off the Foundation’s Essential Business Week on July 13!

While we will not have the opportunity to gather together for the Foundation Business Session as we typically would during Convention, the Foundation is moving forward with conducting essential business online, including voting on proposed Bylaws changes and electing Trustees.

Voting results will be sent to Foundation Members following the Essential Business Week.

Last week, the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to designate $25,000 toward establishing a fund to support Phi Mu’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

“After discussions with the Fraternity, we knew there was an immediate need to help fund diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for Phi Mu members in the upcoming academic year,” said Foundation President Pamela Gaines, Epsilon Alpha.  “In addition to the short-term funding that we’ll be able to provide to the Fraternity through our Caring Carnations program this summer, establishing this fund will allow for an ongoing opportunity for donors to support this important effort.”

You can help support the Fraternity’s diversity, equity and inclusion work through one of two Phi Mu Foundation contribution opportunities below:

Caring Carnations – by purchasing ‘virtual’ Caring Carnations – the Golden Quatrefoil ($10) and/or the Radiant Rose ($5) – to send to members and friends now through July 17.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fund – beginning today, you can make a gift directly to this new fund by visiting the phimufoundation.org/give and select ‘Established Funds’.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we’d like to encourage Phi Mu members and friends to rally behind this cause and spread joy through sending Caring Carnations or make a gift directly to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fund,” said Gaines. “We are much more powerful together and helping to fund this work will ensure that Phi Mu is a stronger, more inclusive organization.”
